During the deportation time Hovagim
had gone to Broussa to his aunt. Where did his parents go? Nobody ever knew. He
was exiled with his aunt. On reaching Deir-el-Zor his aunt fell ill and died
leaving the poor boy in the dark abyss of misery. Hovagim remained then months
in the streets of the city. During that time all that could happen to him has
happened. One day an Arab took him to his house and he lived ten years being
always illtreated and scolded. The eleventh year another Arab took Hovagim to
his house and arranged his marriage with an Armenian girl (No. 1090), who was
living among the Arabs in slavery. Thus, the couple began to work for their
master. Once he met in Tel-Abiyad with an Armenian miller and in conversation
with him he was informed about our rescue-home. The miller helped him to reach
Tel-Samen with his wife. In this way both of them reached us in safety.
