In
the beginning of the deportation Iskender was exiled with his parents and 4
brothers to Ras-el-Ain where the caravan encamped one year. His father died and
his elder brother fled to Aleppo.
Iskender was sent further on
with the rests of the family to Mardin. On the road Arabs attacked the caravan
and began to rob and kill. Many children and young women they took away with
them.
Iskender was also taken by an
Arab and lived in his house 3 years. Then famine came in the country, and he
was put out and went to another Arab, where he served 8 years as a shepherd.
He was always longing to see
his brother in Aleppo, so one day he fled with some camel-drivers, who brought
him to our house.
His
mother and two brothers are in Greece.
